PET and KET are here! But don't panic, we have been working for them the whole year, and you are perfectly ready to face and success in the exams. Here you have some advices that can be useful for you.

ADVICES

Before the exam

·         Prepare your material

·         Relax and chill out

·         Sleep well the night before (Minimum of 9 hours)

·         Have a healthy breakfast

·         Be confident and trust yourself

During the exam

·         Bring you ID card

·         Bring your material (2 pencils, 2 black or blue pens, rubber and pencil sharpener)

·         Bring a bottle of water and some sweets

·         READ EVERYTHING, understand the questions and answers any doubts

·         Write down your answers in the ANSWER SHEET

·         Review and check you have the answers in the ANSWER SHEET

 

KET and PET

Ha llegado el momento de decidir qué alumnos y alumnas se examinarán del KET y cuáles se examinarán del PET. Para ello, y como sabemos que esto puede generar dudas e inseguridades, a continuación os mostramos un powerpoint explicando en qué consiste cada uno de los exámenes y a qué modalidades de educación secundaria conducen. 

Recordaros que lo importante no es que un alumno o alumna se examine de un nivel más o menos alto, sino que se sientan seguros y confíen en sus posibilidades, esforzándose y trabajando  tanto en clase como en casa. 

La decisión de que un alumno/a haga un examen u otro corresponde a los maestros, ya que conocemos su nivel y hemos ido haciendo pruebas a lo largo de 5º y 6º de Primaria. Por otro lado, la decisión de la modalidad de educación secundaria os corresponde a vosotros (alumnos/as y familias).

KET WRITING TEST

Choose one of the following examples and write your answer.

 These are KET writing tests, so you should apply everything we have learnt at school. 

1. First of all, write in a draft paper all your ideas.
2. Choose the best ones and start writing in a clean piece of paper
3. Count your words. Yoy MUST NEVER write more than 40 words. 
4. Check that you have answered to ALL the questions. 
5. Check your spealling and punctuation. 
6. Make sure it is understandable and clear.
7. Hand it to your teacher whenever you want

KET: LISTENING TEST

The Cambridge English: Key Listening paper has five parts. For each part you have to listen to a recorded text or texts and answer some questions. You hear each recording twice.

Time allowed - about 30 minutes

How to prepare for KET Listening

• Read the instructions carefully before you start each section.
• Read the questions before you listen. You will hear the audio twice.
• Listen! The more English you listen to the better your will do. Listen to the radio, English language TV, podcasts...

What’s in the Reading and Writing paper?

The Cambridge English: Key Reading and Writing paper has nine parts and different types of texts and questions. Parts 1–5 are about reading and Parts 6–9 are mainly about writing.

Part 1 (Matching)

What's in Part 1?	Eight signs, notices or other very short texts (A–H) and five sentences. You have to match each sentence to the right sign or notice.

How many marks do I get?	One mark for each correct answer.

Part 2 (Multiple choice)

What's in Part 2?	Five sentences on the same topic or which are related to a story. Each sentence has a missing word and you have to choose the best word (A, B or C) to complete the sentence.

How many marks do I get?	One mark for each correct answer.

Part 3 (Multiple choice)

What's in Part 3?	The first five questions are things you say in a conversation. For each sentence, you have to choose what the other person says next (A, B or C). The second part of Part 3 is a longer conversation, but some sentences are missing. You have a list of sentences (A–H) and you have to find the right sentence for each space.
What do I have to practise?	Reading and finding the right answer for everyday conversations.
How many questions are there?	10
How many marks do I get?	One mark for each correct answer

Part 4 (Right/Wrong/Doesn’t say OR multiple choice)

What's in Part 4?	A long text or three short texts. You have to read the text(s) and seven sentences. You have to decide if each sentence is Right, Wrong, or Doesn't say, or choose the right answer (A, B or C) to the questions.
What do I have to practise?	Reading to understand the detail and main ideas of a text.
How many questions are there?	7
How many marks do I get?	One mark for each correct answer.

Part 5 (Multiple-choice cloze)

What's in Part 5?	A short text with eight numbered spaces. Each space means there is a missing word and you have to choose the right answer (A, B or C).
What do I have to practise?	Reading to find the right sort of word, e.g. a preposition like 'for' or 'since', or verb form like 'keeping', 'keep' or 'kept', etc.
How many questions are there?	8
How many marks do I get?	One mark for each correct answer.

Part 6 (Word completion)

What's in Part 6?	Five sentences like the definitions you find in a dictionary. We give you the first letter of the word and the number of letters, and you have to complete the word.

Part 7 (Open cloze)

What's in Part 7?	A short text, for example a letter or postcard. There are 10 missing words in the text and you have to think of the right word to complete each space.

Part 8 (Information transfer)

Part 9 (Guided writing)

What's in Part 9?	You have to write a short message, note, email or postcard. The instructions tell you who to write to and what to say.

How many marks do I get?	This question has a total of 5 marks.

KET SPEAKING TEST

KET SPEAKING TEST

What you need to know about the KET Speaking Test

• There are two parts to the KET Speaking Test
• Two candidates take the test together
• There are two examiners in the room
• The test takes 8-10 minutes

Part 1: 5-6 minutes

The examiner asks you questions. You answer them. The questions are about you, your family, your job or studies and where you live. You will be asked to spell a word – usually your surname.

Some examples:
• What’s your name?
• Where do you live?
• Why are you learning English?
• What do you usually do at the weekend?
• What sports do you like?
• Tell me about your family

Part 2: 3-4 minutes

Two candidates take the KET Speaking test together. The examiner gives you a sheet, usually with a picture and some information. You ask and answer questions with the other candidate, not the examiner. These questions are not personal; they are about the information on the sheet. You take turns, Student A asks the questions. Student B answers the questions. There is a new sheet of paper. Student B asks the questions. Student A answers. To help you making the questions, there are question words on the sheet.

You will need to know how to use the following question words:

What, When, Where, Who, Why, How.

Remember - you are not in a competition with the other student.
